The brief
Kahawa Ridge is a fictional farmers’ co-operative on the slopes of Mt Kenya. For decades it has sold green coffee at auction. Now it wants to roast and sell some of its own coffee, to hotels in Nairobi and online, and it needs an identity that can sit on a café shelf next to international brands without pretending to be one.
The approach
From the place, not from a template. The mark is built from the contour lines of a ridge, which also read as the rows of a terraced shamba. It works as a single-colour stamp, which matters because much of the packaging will be printed locally in one colour on kraft paper.
A system the co-operative can run. One typeface family, three colours, and a label layout where only the origin, roast and weight change. A secretary with a laptop can make a new label correctly.
3D visuals before printing. The packaging was modelled and rendered in Blender so the co-operative could show buyers the product before paying for a print run.
What it shows
This concept shows the Identity System and 3D product visuals packages working together. The co-operative and its products are fictional.
